Makeup (Click to select text)
MAKEUP What is makeup? War pain, a mask, and things a woman uses to embellish herself because of low self-esteem? The answer is no. Often these terms have been some of the insults makeup has been hit with over the years. It's true that women spend a lot of money on makeup, maybe an average of $1000 a year, but its all for a good cause. Makeup, if used correctly, can have many benefits. It would be unjust to brutally criticize makeup without looking at its benefits to the wearer. Most women use makeup as self-esteem builder, the self-esteem that already exists. Putting on makeup, a woman feels better about herself; she feels prettier and even sexier. A woman is often valued by her appearance. She will use makeup to enhance and display her beauty. Makeup is not always used because of lack of self-esteem. Makeup is used mostly to impress society; it's used for first impression. In today's society, women are judged greatly on there physical appearance. Therefore makeup is used as their weapon to defeat that judgment. There is so much competition out there; between who is more attractive that women rely on makeup to become the most beautiful they think they can be. To illustrate, let us consider then following scenario. A man meets a woman for the first time. Her lips look soft and rosy, her skins smooth, with slightly blushed cheeks, her blue eyes seem radiant and sparkling. Most likely, the man will be attracted to her. He may not notice that she is wearing makeup because it is very subtly applied. If we were to take a close look at her we would see that her skin looks so smooth and blushed because of the carefully applied make up and the touch of blush. Her lips look so soft because of the slightly tinted lip-gloss she is wearing; her eyes so radiant because so the carefully applied eyeliner and mascara. If all that makeup would be removed we would probably have a very pale with chapped lips. The man would probably not be so attracted to her. Makeup is used as a tool to enhance a woman's appearance in the eyes of those who have not yet had a chance to get to know her personality. However when people criticize makeup they often think of those extreme cases when a woman pounds on the makeup in layers. Women who wear makeup this way are stereotypically mocked. If applied properly, can become quite a beautiful art. "A little medicine cures a lot kills" the same could be said about makeup. Makeup can change your appearance into many different looks. That is why makeup is used in many movies and fashion shows. Models for example apply different types of makeup to achieve different looks. She can look scary trashy, provocative, sophisticated and even young. This is also beneficial to the model and the industry itself. Makeup goes beyond being a woman's beauty aid. It can be used on people who are badly scared from accidents or who suffer from medical conditions. For a young teenager with a severe acme problem, makeup could be used to cover the blemishes, giving the teen a better appearance. On somebody who has been badly burned or scared it could be used for similar purposes. An anemic person, who is ghostly pale, could bring some color to his or her face with the help of makeup. Makeup is also good as a sun protector. Today, most foundations and lipsticks have a sun protector substance. Makeup therefore can protect us from harmful U.V rays and decrease the chances of getting skin cancer, therefore, a true benefit. It's true that make up if misused it could be damaging. Using too much foundation could lead to premature skin aging and using mascara could lead to eye infections. But like many other things if you use too much of something it often will be hazardous. In conclusion, makeup is beneficial to the user. It is not "war paint", a "mask", or something a woman uses because of no self-esteem. However it can become those things if the woman misuses the product. More so, makeup is an aid to enhancing a woman's appearance. Makeup is personal preference-a woman chooses to create the image she wishes to display. She should not be insulted for doing so. Her image of herself is what counts. So the next time you encounter that beautiful woman with incredible, perfect skin and radiant looks, stop and think. The "war paint" doesn't look so bad on her dose it?MAKEUP What is makeup?
